and talk festival is designed as a communal structure to host a range of activities both prescribed and impromptu. The round structure is modeled after primitive tribal settlements layouts; where at the center, communal activities and cultural events unfold open to the sky around a looping roof. The public exterior of the pavilion loop offers the possibility for visitors to engage any of the fixed programs while the interior loop offers a more engaged experience and access to the stage centered events. These programs are realized in this proposed scheme in section so as to consider the exterior and interior functions and uses and so the section profile changes to best suit those uses. The pavilion then is a loop of the programs and their section and a negotiation of the profile most notably in the roof. The resulting geometry is a unique shape that reads and one structure while signaling individua moment/program within it. With a busy access road to the interstate on the parcel’s longest side, sound mitigation and view management are of key concern with the programming and layout of the house. The exterior is a rusticated masonry volume responding to the site setbacks. Towards the back it steps in and the main views are directed away from the road. The layout in response organizes all the smaller spaces such as kitchen and bathrooms toward the most narrow side of the lot; while all the bigger,gathering spaces are arranged in wider side of the lot. Futhermore the programing inverts the typical arragement of spaces by moving the living spaces to the second floor where the views can expand out and the bedrooms in the ground sheltered by landscape. The project’s context involved an existing building with 4 ghost kitchens; stablishments where food is prepared but there is no on site dining. This production model proliferated during the COVID 19 pandemic of 2021 when home food deliveries increased and on-site dining decreased. The ghost kitchen’s owner expanded across the street where various buildings housed multiple tenants at one point. The existing buildings and the multiplicity of tenants had left the site as hotchpotch of commerical functions and identities. The proposed design primarly aims to make a single identity of the existing disparate buildings (units 5-8). It employs a continous frieze like band that consolidates the various parapets and building eyebrows into one singular element.
